Research Activities

The Neuro-Ophthalmology Program has provided numerous research presentations, invited research lectures, given 22 clinical/teaching lectures and have 49 articles or chapters published or in press at the time of this report.  The research of the Human Vision and Eye Movement Lab was highlighted in the Faculty of 1000 Biology twice.  Our research has attracted the attention of newspapers (Toronto Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province, the Times (UK), Denver Post, EpochTimes), radio and TV shows (CBC Radio, ABC News Radio, CTV Dr Rhonda Low show, USA Today), and magazines (MacLean’s, Canadian Geographic, The Scientist), among others

Teaching Activities

The educational outreach of the program included a variety of key activities. Dr. Michael Ronthal from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Nancy Kanwisher from MIT and Dr. Gordon Plant from Queen Square, UK were the 3 invited speakers for 2008. The educational website operated by the division continues to be well used, receiving 733,104 hits and 68,628 visits in the last 12 months.

The neuro-ophthalmology members have all been involved with presentations both locally and nationally. The neuro-ophthalmology clinics continue to attract consultations from all over the province and provide an excellent database for ongoing research studies, as well as for teaching purposes. The program had 2 international clinical fellows and provided a remarkable teaching dossier of 1536 hours of instruction of fellows, 588 hours for residents and 688 for medical students.
